Johannes Greyling was the star of the show at the Ngong Racecourse as he dominated two races at the Sports Kenya St. Leger to clinch the main race crown.

Greyling cruised to victory in his second race of the day jockeying Eagle Bay. Eagle Bay broke well from her outside stall, settling near mid-pack for Splendid as Eagle Bay gunned out for the early lead.
As the field approached the far turn, Eagle Bay was again threatened by Splendid but it was Glascote who was steadily approaching on the far outside after a three-wide run.
Greyling, however, managed to hold on to the lead as they approached the finish line to secure his first win of the day after he faltered in the first race dubbed ‘The Nyayo Stadium Terms’ finishing a fraction of a second behind Patrick Ngugi who went on to win the race.

In the fourth race, Greyling jockeying the dreaded Iced Waterfall fell short of victory as he came in second behind J. Muhindi who dominated the race from start breaking well from his inside stall.

Greyling was at it again this time in the 2800 main race of the day. The Jockey, on in form Hawker Fury stallion broke well from his stall beating off main rival AS Paragon.

Though he was still three lengths from the lead near the head of the lane, Hawker Fury never panicked, first swallowing up As paragon with a near 7 foot length. He then pointed School of Rock at her next target and with a perfectly-timed steady ride, Greyling guided his mare on to the front for a maiden Victory.

Speaking during the Event, Sports Kenya Chairman Fred Muteti who had earlier on clinched victory when his horse Santorini stormed to victory in ‘ The County Stadia Maiden Race’ said there are plans to expand the sport as they seek to make the Sports Kenya St. Leger Day an annual event.
“This is the inaugural edition of Sports Kenya Leger and we want to make it as memorable as it can possibly be and we will keep sponsoring such sporting events,” Said Mutetei.
