A brace from Samuel Onyango and a strike from Jacques Tuyisenge inspired K’Ogalo to a 3-1 win over the Nigerian outfit in the first round on Sunday.
Taming West African strikers has not been an easy task, but the Gor Mahia captain,Harun Shakava led by example. He was there to make vital interceptions, win most 50/50 balls and ensured there was an organization at the back. But again he has to remain solid in the second leg.
After missing the two legs against Nyasa Big Bullets, the creative midfielder Francis Kahata made a return and had an immediate impact. Provided an assist for Jacques Tuyisenge to hit the back of the net, and went on to put an excellent display as the Kenyan champions registered a healthy scoreline.
Once again Tuyisenge rose for the occasion, hitting an early goal that helped the hosts cool their nerves. His work rate was also impressive and was very unfortunate not to hit a hat-trick. Gor Mahia will rely on him for a better 2018/19 season in all competitions.
